Nigerian Economic Society Holds Annual Lecture at the University of Ibadan

On February 22nd, the Nigerian Economic Society hosted a public lecture at the Central Bank of Nigeria's Centre of Excellence Lecture Theatre, located at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ibadan. The lecture, titled "Recent Developments in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Markets: Issues, Options, and the Way Forward," aimed to address pertinent issues concerning the Nigerian economy.
Established in 1957, the Nigerian Economic Society is a professional organization comprising economists and allied social scientists. It plays a pivotal role in providing leadership in economic management within Nigeria.
Dr. Olayeni Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was the keynote speaker for the event. Notable dignitaries in attendance included Professor Antonia Taiye, Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), who presided as the chairperson, Professor K.O Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, and Professor Adeola Adenikinju, President of the Nigerian Economic Society. Additionally, Professor Sam Olofin, a distinguished professor of Economics, was invited as a guest speaker.
The lecture featured insightful discussions with two prominent discussants: Mr. Bismarck Rewane, CEO of Financial Derivatives Company, Lagos, and Dr. Tope Dada, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters.
This event served as the society's annual lecture for the year 2024, providing a platform for informed dialogue and analysis on critical economic issues facing Nigeria.
