Dr. Fashanu highlighted the various causes of drug and alcohol abuse, including curiosity, self-enhancement, familial influences, PTSD, and easy access to drugs, warning of dire consequences such as renal failure, economic loss, hypertension, and even death.
In addition to addressing drug abuse, Dr. Fashanu discussed stress management, defining stress as our response to life's demands. He underscored that academic pressures and toxic environments contribute to stress and offered practical strategies for stress management, such as activity scheduling, task division, combating procrastination, prioritizing relaxation, and ensuring adequate sleep.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of seeking help and fostering a positive outlook on challenges, asserting that one's belief in their ability to handle situations affects their stress levels. Notable figures present at the event included faculty lecturers, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, the sub-dean of the Faculty of The Social Sciences, Dr. Olaniyan, and the Dean of the Faculty of The Social Sciences, Professor Nwokocha, who served as the chief host.
