By Glorious Olajire

Interviewer: Good evening, my name is Glorious Olajire and I am with FATSSSA Press, could you please introduce yourself?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: Good evening. I am Lawal Ridwan Olamide. I am a 100-level student of the Department of Political Science and I am currently vying for the position of Assistant General Secretary of the Faculty of The Social Sciences Student Association.

Interviewer: What is the theme of your campaign?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: The theme of my campaign is accessibility and inclusiveness because I so much believe in inclusiveness during any administration. Whenever you are at the helm of doing things, you should carry your people along. Although the AGS office may be the smallest office of the executive arm, I still believe I need to include people and be easy for them to access.

Interviewer: How does that translate into what you hope to change, and introduce into the Faculty of The Social Sciences Student Association?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: I picked inclusiveness and accessibility because I believe that when I pick people of like mind, who have positive ideas to change the faculty for good when I put them on board, and they are with me, those who are willing to serve the faculty, when they are also in my train and they are included and the people are carried along with me, positive vibes would begin to run with us, and I know positive change will roll into the faculty.

Interviewer: You mentioned picking some people, can you expand on that, and explain how those people would fit into your plans or your responsibilities in the association, as a member of the faculty and as a member of the executive?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: Thank you so much. Let me go back to my theme again. Inclusiveness. I have been in the system with the present AGS, I am a volunteer member of his sanitation committee and I have spent some time with him and seen how the system works. For me, I am planning to bring the departmental AGS on board with me when I am finally elected as AGS. I believe I would have gotten closer to the people in the department because the departmental AGS knows better than what I can see. Bringing these people on board with me, people of like mind; setting up a committee, I know it would be easier for me to achieve everything I bring to the table for FATSSSAITES.

Interviewer: Apart from volunteering as a member of the Sanitation committee, have you taken any other leadership roles or volunteered with any other committees that you feel would equip you with the necessary experience for the role that you are vying for?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: Thank you for your question. I have also joined various committees. In my hall of residence, I am a member of the publicity team, where I hold a very esteemed position, I am also a member of the health and social committee. For me, leadership is not something you wake up and you think you want to take up. You have to project for the future. They say experience is the best teacher and being a member of these committees, I know I have garnered a lot of experiences under different leaders and I know I can put all these together to further sail the ship of FATSSSA to progress.

Interviewer: Were all these committees in the hall?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: Yes, they are all in the hall. I believe experience counts. The human being keeps learning until he gives up the ghost.

Interviewer: Thank you. In one sentence, why are you running for AGS?

Mr. Lawal Ridwan: I have made up my mind to serve the faculty and I want to give my best to the faculty, I want to put my best on the table for the progress of the faculty. I want to build on the existing protocol and build a better foundation, even for the administration that would come after, so that they’ll meet a better record in office. They’ll meet the quality of good governance and good leadership.

Interviewer: What is your life’s philosophy?

Mr Lawal Ridwan: Thank you for the question. My life’s philosophy is very simple. I believe that to whom much is given, much is expected. I believe that for FATSSSAITES to come out to vote and to entrust me, I believe I have a lot to put on the table to impress them for the progress of the faculty. Since I hold myself worthy to lead the people, to lead is to serve. I want to occupy this position, I know I must do everything possible within my capability for the progress of the faculty.

Interviewer: Thank you so much. Mr. Lawal Ridwan for your time.

Mr Lawal Ridwan: Thank you so much and God bless you.
