The FATSSSA House of Representatives held her 6th legislative sitting last Friday, the 25th of November 2022. A lot of insufficiently discussed items on the agenda of the previous Sitting which held on the 11th became backlogged on this.

One of those things was the FATSSSA General Secretary’s budget.

A sum of N6,100 had been approved at the last sitting and the remainder was to be presented to the House at this sitting.

Miss. Fisayo Adedokun, the General Secretary of the Association walked up to the podium and presented a budget of N5,000 for printing of the Association’s correspondences among other things.

This sum raised some eyebrows and the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Adoyi had to clarify that it was for the first semester only and not for both semesters.

Miss. Fisayo explained that the office of the General Secretary handles a lot of paperwork and so, has to do a lot of printing. She used the last Faculty Freshers Welcome events as an example explaining that she had to write permission letters to the Dean and other Faculty leadership and these letters pile up.

The previous Josiah Obong’s led FATSSSA Administration purchased a printer last year for use in the Secretariat to reduce printing costs for the association’s business. Miss. Fisayo was asked about that and her reply was that that printer was not in working condition at the moment.

An Honourable of the House then asked how much it would cost to fix the printer and whether it was a cheaper alternative.

Miss. Fisayo’s answer was not clear as she said it would cost about N30,000 to fix, and even if it were fixed, it still wouldn’t function properly as it’s not suitable for bulk printing.

The Speaker then asked, directing the question to the FATSSSA President, whether a printer could be bought by FATSSSA as an Association for the use of all FATSSSITES for the printing of assignments and other schoolwork.

The FATSSSA President, Kingsley Chukwuma said although it is a good idea, it is not feasible for the Association at this time. He said recent market survey showed the good printers to be quite expensive. He ended on a positive note saying it was something the Association could work towards and hopefully get sponsorship for.

The sum of N11,100 was approved as the budget for the Office of the General Secretary for the first semester of the 2021/22 Session.
