by IBUKUN KENYAMO
Starting on Monday 11th of October, The Faculty of The Social Sciences Students Association (FATSSSA) will be hosting this year’s edition of their annual ‘Week’. The six-day-long event will feature different activities on each day, starting with an Entrepreneurship Summit on Monday, and ending with the Cultural Night on Saturday.
“I am so excited about all the activities,” said FATSSSA President, Josiah Obong Josiah, “Especially days 4, 5, and 6. Day 6 is the Cultural Night, Day 4 is the Creativity Fest and it will include rap battles, karaoke, live paintings, and so much more, and we have a conference on Day 5”.
The Conference, tagged **(will insert theme when it is revealed)***, will feature a keynote speech given by the Dean of the faculty, and two panel sessions titled “Nigerians, Nigeria: The Difference’ and ‘State Regulation of the Media’. On the panels will be Prof. Aiyede, HOD Political Science; Prof. Adesina, HOD History; Prof. Lafenwa, the Sub-Dean of the faculty; Dr. Busari, Department of Sociology; Prof. Afolayan, Department of Philosophy; and Dr. Suraj, UNESCO Media Consultant for Africa.
A lot of provisions have been put in place to make this FATSSSA week memorable and a lot of students are looking forward to the chance to relax and have fun with their friends.
“Since this is my first year, I have never had the chance to attend a FATSSSA week. I have heard a lot about it, however and I can not wait!” gushed Grace Adepoju, a first-year Psychology major.
Another annual event students of the faculty are looking forward to is the Faculty Dinner and Josiah spoke on that as well, hinting that the dinner will hold after the second semester examinations.
Josiah explained that although he does not guarantee that FATSSSA Week will be lecture-free, some classes might have to be cancelled if their time and venue clash with one of the activities of the week.
“We hope students of the faculty come together for this. We are expecting the best, and hope to give the best as well,” he concluded.
