On the 25th of September 2021, the Student’s Union of the University of Ibadan, UI, organized its annual pageantry and awards show. The event which took place at the NFLT of the faculty of science also featured displays, comedy, music, dance, drama and lots of other activities.
The high point of the events for all FATSSSAites was when out of 19 awards, 3 were won by students of the faculty. The awards won were; Freshman of the year, Departmental President of the year and Performing artiste of the year.
The press was able to get in touch with them to get their opinion on how it felt to win the awards.
Komolafe Oluwapelumi, awardee of the Freshman of the year is a 100-level student of the department of Psychology. she said winning made her realize that if she put in more effort, she could do anything. She also said she deserved to win because of her selfless service to her towards the growth of her department and faculty since becoming a freshman. When asked about the contributions she replied that she is a member of her department’s social committee and a member of her faculty’s Sponsorship and strategic planning committee. She feels like the award is definitely just the beginning of her journey and not in anyway the end.
Akano Ayomide the person awarded as the Performing Artiste of the year is a 400-level student of the department of Psychology. He said winning made him feel really good and elated. He definitely felt like he deserved to win the award. He feels that the award is the first of many awards to come. He said it was a stepping stone because “I know the amount of work I’m putting into this”. He also said he’s been writing a lot and can’t wait to share it with everyone and wants everyone to lookout for his next single because “it’s actually going to be fire”.
Ojikutu Mojoyin the person awarded as Departmental President of the year is a 400-level student of the department of Sociology. She said winning the award made her happy for a number of reasons like; it showed she represented her department well, it showed that people who nominated and voted for her could see her service to NSASA and that it was unbelievable afterwards thinking about winning departmental president of the year in the whole university. She is grateful for winning the award amongst other great nominees who deserved to win. She prays for more to come hopefully.
Once again FATSSSA has lived up to the name Invicta in their actions and proved once more that actions speak louder than words. Hopefully this is just the beginning of FATSSSA’s trailblazing record and not the end.
