FATSSSA FHR: Honorables berates Social Director's Amapiano Picnic report, set up audit panel which quizes President and Social Director

The FATSSSA legislative council on Friday raised concerns over the several inconsistencies and issues surrounding the report for the Amapiano Picnic event organised by the executive council on 21 August.

This was as a result of the deficit expenses of at least #11,550 incurred by the executive council outside the initial approved budget of #186,900 for the event. It could be recalled that the executive president defended the proposed budget for the Amapiano picnic at the FHR sitting on 20 August (a day before the event) on behalf of the then indisposed social diector Mr. Adeniran Adedayo, and a total sum of #186,900 was approved by the FHR.

But submitting a report of the event to the FHR by the social director, he said the executive council had to incur more expenses beyond the approved budget(up to the sum of about N198,450) due to the inflation in cost of some items and the expenditure on other items which were "forgotten" to be included in the proposed budget.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adejumo Mayowa stated his concerns at the plenary when the Social Director Mr. Adeniran Adedayo, in company of the executive president Mr. Obong Josiah, submitted the picnic report.

Rt. Hon. Mayowa said, "This report has a lot of irregularites and inconsistencies.

"It needs to be keenly looked at again and that will now be in line with all of the evidences possible. All of the items of the report will be compared with the report and the budget just so we can get a comprehensive report.

"You [the executive council] will be reporting back at the next sitting. The financial secretary must be available at the next sitting.

The speaker expressed his lamentation and concluded that, "I am now lost in all of this."

Sharing almost a similar position with the speaker and many other honourables present at the plenary, a member of the FHR audit committe, Hon. Hassan Olanshile inisisted on no account should the House approve the unapproved expenses incurred by the executive council.

She further siad that, "It seems to me that this unapproved exprenses is as a result of the social committee's lack of efficiency. Because I understood that the budget for this event was approved less than 24hours before the event, so I assume they had gone to the market, ask a lot of questions, and knew exactly what they were buying. So even if there is going to be an unexpected change in price, it should not be this much."

The report of the social director Mr. Adeniran Adedayo which was distributed to the faculty lawmakers at Friday plenary would be investigated and reviewed by an in-house panel set up by the House speaker and resubmitted in the next FHR sitting. More controversies continue to surround the AMAPIANO picnic not only in terms of the total sum of money incurred, but also in terms of the actual number of attendees and the actual number prepared for. It seems there might be possibility of a lot of waste of FATSSSA resources, on the picnic which was poorly attended.
