IT WAS A TANGIBLE EXCUSE
By Ameze Damilola
Let's take a stroll down memory lane..
After my first year in university, the session had ended and my fellowship had closed for the session but the hostels were still open so I stayed back because some folks were still around and might want to change their hairdo. (I specialize in bringing out the beauty in women). I cannot rush home and miss money that is my own.
As a good child that I am, on Sunday morning, I dressed up and strolled to a nearby church. They welcomed me well. I was even lent a scarf for the duration of the service. Little did they know that I was there only for Sunday Sunday medicine. After that day, one of the members of the church began to check on me regularly and later on, she started inviting me for their weekly programs but I was contented with dosage of the Sunday Sunday medicine already.
One Thursday afternoon, she caught me washing and reminded me of the text she sent to me which I pretended not to have seen. I promised her that I was going to attend the 6pm service that day. I was still learning to say no then.
After washing, I made swallow and escorted it down my throat with gbegiri soup (the only soup competing for first position with my favorite ogbono soup. The stress involved in cooking gbegiri soup has already disqualified it.
Fast forward to 5:30pm, I had already tied my scarf (lest I be lent another) and was putting on my footwear when my door banged itself shut....... "what sort of breeze is this? " I asked myself. After a while, there was noise, I opened my ear because I had earlier tied it together with my hair. When I opened my door, outside was dark and wet - it was raining!
You can guess my next action already. As a hardworking person that I was and still am, I removed my clothes and flung them in angles which cannot be measured using a protractor. I hurriedly lie on my bed, shut my eyes and went to visit my crush that had been waiting for me for over two hours in dreamland. As we were discussing, he wanted to ask me out when my phone rang. You know who called. I told her I won't be attending the meeting that evening because of the rain.
After the call, I went back to answer the question but he had left already. I'm still waiting for him to return up until now.
