“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” - Abraham Lincoln
While the semester may not be so young again, it has however been riddled with several instances of misuse and abuse of power by certain principal officers of the FATSSSA legislative arm.
Two principal officers of the FATSSSA legislative arm who have over time been caught in this web are the Speaker and Clerk of the House: Rt. Hon. Akinde Azeezat and Hon. Onyejegbu Stephen respectively. They have not only ridiculously displayed this on the floor of the house, they have also reflected this in most of the releases signed by them.
In one of the last releases by the house. While we may want to overlook some of the wrongly constructed sentences, it is expedient that we quickly mention how like many other releases of the house, this particular one was way overboard. The Financial Secretary (currently suspended indefinitely) was described thus: "Mr. Omole Micheal (Financial Secretary) gave his report and the House was umbraged about his hare-brained and careless attitude to give a detailed account... Aside the fact that, it is demeaning to the personae of the Financial Secretary, it is also an insult to over 300 FATSSSAITES who voted him.
If you have ever attended any sitting of the FATSSSA House of Representatives, you will sure be taken aback by the insidious use of unparliamentary words. Usually to exert themselves as the 'principal' officers and people who others should revere even when it is clear that they have stooped lowly of the offices they occupy.
Intellectual FATSSSAITES, the Press has also had its own fair share of this power drunkenness of these officers, we must bring to your notice that the FHR led by Rt. Hon. Akinde Azeezat has found no other legislative role to play, but to meddle in the affairs of the FATSSSA Press Organization all for the reason that she approved a 'whooping' 2% of FATSSSA dues for the Press. Note, this 2% is a constitutional provision and not a presented budget that has to be ridiculously over sighted by the House. Yet, an Audit committee will still audit the Press.
Fellow FATSSSAITES, it is true they say "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Let it be however noted that we are here today, but we won't be here tomorrow. Unfortunately, the wrong precedent has been set and history is taking note of all the wrongs we write and those we fail to right.
